Artist Spotlight: Sienna Evangeline
At just 13 years old, rising pop artist Sienna Evangeline delivers a striking level of emotional awareness on her latest single, “M.I.A.” The polished yet deeply personal track captures the quiet ache of growing distant from someone you once felt inseparable from—an experience made even more familiar in today’s social-media-driven world.
As one of music’s most enduring voices, Sienna Evanegline reveals what fuels their creativity and keeps them grounded.
Eye On Pop: Has your perspective on music changed since you first started releasing material publicly?
Sienna Evangeline: I think my perspective changed by thinking more about how my age impacts what is going on in my life and the topics I want to write about. When I first started releasing music, it was about empowering people around me. Now that I’m releasing music in my early teens, I feel my music has to adapt to more about relationships, social media, and what is going on in the world.
Eye On Pop: What personal traits do you think most influence your creative decisions?
Sienna Evangeline: I think my persistence and empathy influence my creative decisions the most. I’m not worried about putting out a ton of music that I don’t care about, but instead want to create music that makes people feel something, even if that means taking a longer time.
Eye On Pop: What aspects of your latest project feel most representative of where you are now?
Sienna Evangeline: At my age, social media has a huge impact on relationships. I wanted to talk about that subject without really shaming anyone, but really just to get people thinking about the topic of going M.I.A. in relationships because of social media.
Eye On Pop: Were there any unexpected challenges that shaped the final outcome?
Sienna Evangeline: I was fortunate to work with Nathalia Marshall and she’s an absolute pro. Nothing unexpected happened in the process, and we were able to focus on making a beautiful track without any real challenges other than the work itself.
Eye On Pop: What areas of your artistry are you most focused on developing next?
Sienna Evangeline: I think it’s important for me to continue to develop my own voice within the genre without sacrificing what is important to me. There is such a push towards making things ‘viral’ and catering to a minimal attention span, but I want to focus on making meaningful music that changes how people think and feel.
Eye On Pop: How do you envision the next phase of your creative journey?
Sienna Evangeline:The next phase is full of hard work, focus, and fun. Maybe that will be my mantra.
Eye On Pop: What was the focus or intention behind your most recent release?
Sienna Evangeline: Speaking to a very real social issue. So many people are feeling alone right now, and it’s ironic that so many of the people who feel alone are also the ones making someone else feel alone. I wanted to make people stop and think, “am I doing this? Am I disappearing in relationship because of social media?” If people are more aware, they are more likely to change.
Eye On Pop: How did the creation of this project differ from your earlier work?
Sienna Evangeline: The writing part was different because I fully co-wrote with Nathalia, who was also producing the track. In the past, I’ve brought my songs to producers and they (the producers) didn’t write with me. Nathalia was able to think about our work together both as a songwriter and also as a producer, which was an incredible experience for me. I’m definitely working with her again because I like how we work together and what we make together.
Eye On Pop: What aspects of your latest project feel most representative of where you are now?
Sienna Evangeline: My latest song is about how we relate to each other. That’s important to me. For people that know me, I’m a friend, a confidant, a trusted and reliable friend. That’s what I want in my music. I want all of us to be more empathetic. Kinder. More trustworthy.
Eye On Pop: How do ideas for new songs or projects usually take shape for you?
Sienna Evangeline:Ideas come from a lot of different directions and the way they take shape changes from song to song. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but for my next song, I have some very clear ideas I want to work with already, so I’m coming in with a clear direction of what I want the song to sound and feel like. For M.I.A., I came in with a topic I wanted to write about, and my conversations with Nathalia led to concepts, which led to lyrics, which led to a story that we eventually told in the song.
